Polyaspartic.
Can anyone help me with a polyaspartic question?

I have a customer that would like his tiled exterior deck clear coated. As polyaspartic is UV stable and is clear I thought it would be a good choice.

As the tiles are quite porous I think I will get good adhesion but am concerned about trapping moisture in bedding mix between the tiles and waterproof membrane.

In hot weather I am worried that the moisture that is trapped will rise and delaminate the coating where the grout lines are. I dont think it will lift the coating off the actual tiles though.

Anyone had any experience here?

Thanks.

RE: Polyaspartic.
Can you tell me what is polyaspartic? Is it just uv resistance and pretty much the same as polyurea??

RE: Polyaspartic.
Polyaspartic polyurea is another type of chemistry that produces a urea linkage from the reaction and therefore qualifies as a polyurea. These systems are aliphatic chemistry so they are color stable. They come in different mix ratios, originally 1.5:1 but different producers have changed the ratios usually be adding a solvent to one side and now are seen in 1:1 and 2:1 mix ratios. Some care must be used in selecting the right products as mixing ratios are not the only changes that might occur when solvents are added to the systems.

In regard to using the polyaspartic over the tile, I agree about adhesion to the tile but I would be reluctant to recommend the application because of the moisture issues. Not just in the grout but also in the tile itself if it is quite porous. I have seen outdoor applications on porous substrates that turn milky over time and within a couple of years begin to disbond. If moisture builds up beneath the coating at the bond lines it can cause discoloration and deterioration of the bonding.
