water proofing for swimming pools
Hi, We are a company based in spain and are looking for a product to use in repairing and coating swimming pools. Would polyurea be effective? If so do you distribute to Spain or sell to Spain. Could you please advise more information regarding what product would be most suitable for our needs.(or where to find it on your web) What colours does it come in and what machinery would be needed for its application.
Many Thanks

RE: water proofing for swimming pools
Although polyurea systems have been used to coat swimming pools, it is not a popular application for the technology. Polyurea systems do not stand up to chlorine, therefore, alternative sanitation methods must be used such as a saline system. Converting existing pools over to such alternative systems can be done within reasonable expense.
To apply conventional polyurea systems requires the use of plural component spray equipment. As far as color goes, most system manufacturers can provide whatever color you require.
A good source to find a European distributor is the member listing of the Polyurea Development Association, www.pda-online.org.

Now as I understand it, most polyurea will withstand up to xxx% chlorine concentrations, which were way beyond tolerable human limits.

RE: water proofing for swimming pools
we have done several swim pool/concrete pond projects and the big key is surface prep......in regards to the coatings we have used versaflex primer & polyurea products with great results,,,,,,,the best system is to prime spray 60-80 mils of poly then we apply a alphatic topcoat the topcoat keeps the color bright and gives it more life against uv exposure and the chlorine,,,,

RE: water proofing for swimming pools
aaron, what we use is a polyurethane based topcoat whit a very low resin-factor ,applied within the curing fase of the polyurea (48hours), heat/chlorine factor wil not be of any effect. at least within the 8-year warranty, after that we can redo the topcoat..
all of the pools we have made are still in great shape ,we even did a couple of spa/sauna's with a lot of chemicals.
our topcoat is produced by prokol resins in holland their website www.polyurea.nl ours www.hollandpolyurea.com

RE: water proofing for swimming pools
Hi There,
I have been told by many people to stay away from pools, as there are too many seams that the water could infiltrate and cause blistering, as well as the hydrostatic problem, have you had any of these problems? if so how have you bypassed them? could you explain a little more on what you did for surface prep.
Thanks

RE: water proofing for swimming pools
I amusing an awesome polyurea which despite what everyone says is color satble and physically stable in chlorine.
Also, I have done patches with it with seam termination underwater with no problem.
The patch was on an ESI roll-applied polyaspartic called polyspar which I used that failed really bad.
the price form the manufacturer is $91.50/gallon but it is awesome and only needs to be applied like 30 mil thick. I have sprayed it on underwater patches with no primers even.
I am doing another pool 3000 sqft this spring in acouple months I will take pictures and maybe post them on youtube.
On new applictions, I put an aromatic base down at 45 mil first though.
If hoolandpolyurea reads this, what are you using? it sounds like you are using good experience.
